Acknowledging My Crazy Life

0

I’m usually on top of time-sensitive things. I am the type of person that saves events and due dates on the calendar with checklists just in case. I write down things that I need to remember for the next day. I also leave myself a post-it reminder on my mirror or under my keys for good measure. I don’t forget the big things, that was until last weekend.

I was visiting with my husband, dad, and stepmom at my dining room table after my kids were put to bed. All the adults were sitting around, we got on the topic of glasses, vision, etc. Someone mentioned getting their vision checked before renewing their license. All of the sudden, my husband started rifling through my purse that had been sitting on the table.

He opened my wallet and said, “Your license expired.”

My birthday was over a month ago. My face felt hot and my stomach dropped. How did I miss such a thing?

My life is a little crazy right now and I do not have it all together.

Although sometimes I stress about how I can best juggle all of my responsibilities of working and taking care of three young children, I know in the back of my mind that this is only a season. I won’t always have to plan out a movie date with my friends a month in advance. It won’t always take me at least thirty minutes to leave with kids in tow. Before I know it, my kids will be older and spending lots of time at friends’ houses and able to watch themselves.

I vow to slow down and try my best to get the important things done, to appreciate my children, and to ask for help when I need it.

If you are usually on top of things and have occasionally found yourself dropping the ball since you had kids, you are not alone. Take a moment, realize that mistakes can happen, and decide how you can make things a little less hectic in your life in the future.

For now, I am going to acknowledge that my life is crazy, but I love it.
