Holiday Bird Feeder Craft

bird feeder craftThis easy craft is festive and fun to make with kids age 2-7. You can make these simple bird feeders in any shape, so be creative!

photo 5Supplies needed:

  • Thick cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Marker or pencil
  • Twine or cord (yarn could even work)
  • Peanut butter
  • Dried cranberries
  • Birdseed

Start by deciding on what shape you’d like your bird feeder to be. We made Christmas trees, coffee mugs, and ornaments. You can either free-hand a sketch on your cardstock, or find an easy template by searching online.

Cut out your shape in cardstock, then punch a hole at the top, making sure to leave a large enough border- the peanut butter can make the cardstock flimsy, so you don’t want the twine to tear through.

photo 2Tie your twine through the hole, creating a loop large enough to hang over the end of a tree branch.

Now it is time to decorate the bird feeders! Spread the peanut butter in a thin layer over the cut-out. Then sprinkle birdseed and press dried cranberries into the peanut butter.

Hang on your favorite tree and let your winter bird friends enjoy!
