Ever since I heard about the Hydrafacial, I have been intrigued. As an adult with acne and sensitive skin, the idea of a process that not only deep cleans my pores, but also INFUSES them with healthy, natural serums sounded like something I definitely wanted to learn more about. I was finally able to experience a Hydrafacial for the first time a couple weeks ago, at Your Wellness Center, and it was every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be.

Let’s back it up a little it…

What exactly is a Hydrafacial?

The HydraFacial MD is a completely non-invasive treatment used to nourish and restore the integrity of the skin. HydraFacial MD sets itself apart from other resurfacing procedures with its’ patented Vortex-Fusion® delivery system.

There are 4 steps to the treatment:

So what does all of that mean?

In my layman’s terms, essentially the Hydrafacial, removes the dead skins cells from your face, delivers a mild peel (gentler on your skin, so you don’t have the same redness and flakiness of the traditional chemical peel), removes blackheads (YES!), and then infuses healthy natural serums back into your pores where the dirt and blackheads once were.

Now that we know what a Hydrafacial is… here is the most important part. How was the experience and did it do what it claims to do for my skin?

Before

I had a couple questions going into my first Hydrafacial. Probably my biggest one was about how my super sensitive skin would react to it. I was assured that it would be safe for my skin and that outside of some redness, I should not experience any other significant side-effects. This was absolutely the case. I had some redness, but it was gone well within an hour afterward. I appreciated the staff taking the time to answer my questions and explain the procedure to me.

During

This part was easy. All I had to do was lay there and relax while Kaitlyn Hunter, FNP performed the 4 steps of the Hydrafacial mentioned above. I don’t know exactly what I was expecting, but it is really very anti-climatic. My skin tingled a little bit as the suction passed over my skin, but really, it just felt wet. The whole process was completed in approximately 30 minutes and I was back out the door to get on with my day.

After

Immediately afterward, my face felt dewy and my skin glowed with all of the moisture that had been infused back into my pores. Within an hour, that dewy sensation was gone. So, what benefits did I see? This is the good stuff y’all!

My skin was fuller thanks to the Hyaluronic Acid infusion. This fullness of skin was my favorite result. Hyaluronic Acid is a substance the skin produces on its’ own, but production decreases as we age. The decrease in Hyaluronic Acid leads to signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of volume in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid creates more youthful, plump skin by providing short- and long-term hydration. I didn’t realize this was something my skin was missing until I saw my face afterward. It’s worth getting a Hydrafacial just for this!

My skin was soft. Like, I couldn’t believe how soft. After a day or two, I did experience the mild flakiness from the peel I was told to anticipate, but once that had run its course, my skin was once again the softest it has been in years… not exaggerating.

My acne was gone. No joke. I recently started seeing a dermatologist for acne treatment and I am so grateful for how much that has done to help my skin. However, I would still experience weekly breakouts of some kind. Since having the Hydrafacial two+ weeks ago, I have not experienced that. At all. I am pretty impressed by that result.

So, the moral of my story is that the Hydrafacial is absolutely worth the hype. If you have been intrigued, like I was, I encourage you to take the plunge. For more detailed information, to read some of the FAQs, and to schedule your appointment, check out Your Wellness Center’s website today!
