When I first learned of the opportunity to have a photographer from Kandid.ly come to our house specifically to take candid shots, I honestly wasn’t too excited about it. Especially since these were early morning or evening shoots, I knew there was potential for some serious meltdowns, tantrums, and/or general grumpiness (from me in the morning and from my daughter in the evening). After thinking about it though, I changed my mind. If there were photos I didn’t like, I didn’t have to show them to anybody, right? Hopefully we’d at least get a few cute shots, I thought.
On our scheduled day, it was storming pretty badly, so Kati called to reschedule. The lighting indoors wouldn’t be great, and we wouldn’t be able to get any outdoor photos, so we rescheduled for the following week.
When Kati ** arrived for the shoot that next week, she was so nice and easy to work with. She chatted with my 2 year old, and we all felt comfortable just doing our normal thing around her. We practiced violin, played outside, washed sand out of our shoes and off our feet, played inside, did puzzles, brushed our teeth, changed into our PJs, and read books. The normal rhythms of our evening routine were caught on camera. Moments I would never think to photograph, like the evening tooth brushing session, are actually so endearing to have photos of. It is all the little, seemingly inconsequential moments that make up our lives that I am realizing are actually the important ones. I am so thankful for this opportunity, and am now inspired to grab my camera and take some candid shots more often.
