Letter to My Husband {from Your Widow}

Dear Hubby:

“Excuse me” and “You are” were the first two words we spoke to one another when we met on the eve of Father’s Day in 2015. What a divine sequence of events that transpired throughout that day!

After debating with myself most of the day, I decided to attend an all-white party for Father’s Day at one of my favorite local nightclubs. I thought it would be a good opportunity to get out and enjoy some music, so I decided to just go and at least check it out.

Decked out in my white attire, I walked into the packed spot and found a spot off to the side where I canvassed the scene for a minute before going to check out the other side, which was more for socializing. Everyone was sitting down and conversing, and I didn’t recognize anyone, so I retreated back to the other side. This time, I found a spot near the photo booth. It was still out of the way, but on the dance floor in case I felt the urge to do my two-step or bust out some moves. But I wouldn’t stand there long either, because the photographer came over with a group to take their picture. So, once again, I was on the move.

At this time, I was thinking about turning in for the night as I searched for a seat. I ventured over to an open seat off to the right of the dance floor. As I got closer, I noticed you standing next to the seat. Upon approach, I said, “Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?” In your cool, confident, and chivalrous way, you responded, “You are,” and pulled out the chair for me to sit. Instantly, I was charmed!

While I hadn’t noticed you before, you definitely caught my attention when we spoke, and you kept it for the rest of the night. I had a great time in your company that special evening, and every day after until recently when you were laid to rest. Now that you’re gone, I’m missing your presence and your love.

Thank you for showering me with your love!

Love always and forever,

Your Beautiful Wife
