Meet Maddie

Maddie is a recent transplant to the Northern Kentucky Area, where she moved last spring after a decade in Columbus, OH. She’s the mom of three kids: A son, born in 2009, and twin girls, born in 2011. This was as exhausting as it sounds. Luckily, she thrives on chaos.

She balances the glamour life of being working full time with the rigors of first grade homework, playing dress-up, and moving mountains (both metaphorical mountains, and mountains of laundry).

She had hobbies once, but doesn’t quite remember what they were. Now, when she gets a moment of free time, she uses it to catch up on her wine and/or sleep, usually in that order. She also loves to cooking, running, singing badly while playing her guitar even worse, and reading.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Receive a 24 hour-long foot massage, but with meals and naps.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be and why?

Kelly green. Fresh, springy, and extremely helpful for landscape painting.

What song would you sing at karaoke night?

Son of a Preacher Man, off key but loudly.

Who would you call for bail money?

Without hesitation, I’d call my mother. 1.) She’d hear the phone in the middle of the night (I’m assuming I need bail in the middle of the night, as that’s when the bad things happen) 2.) She’d know something was wrong as soon as she heard my voice, and also, almost certainly be relieved that I Only Needed Bail, as she’d assume someone was dead, and 3.) She’d leave the house immediately, get there in her PJs, and then buy me ice cream.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Might Insert Foot Suddenly In Mouth.

If you had to eat at one Cincinnati restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Graeters? This is actually hard for me, as I’m a new to the city. Reading everyone else’s responses has made me realize that I’m completely unschooled. Perhaps I should answer with a question: Who wants to babysit while I try and find out?

What is your favorite place to take the kids in Cincinnati?

So far, Cincinnati Nature Center. I also love the huge playground at Sawyer Point and Union Terminal, which my new reader stubbornly calls “Onion Terminal” because of phonics. He’s not wrong.

You’ll notice that I have quite a bit more experience in this department. Funny how that works!

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Here’s a joke told to me by a four year-old at dinner last night.

Kid: Hey Mom, why do they call airplanes ‘airplanes’?
ME: Why?
Kid: Because they fly through the AIR. (Laughs uproariously). Get it? GET IT GET IT GET IT?

That stuff. Man, I love that stuff.

What is your least favorite thing about being a mom?

All of the parts that happen between midnight and 6am, and/or that involve vomit. Close runner up: The near-toxic levels of worry.

Welcome Maddie!
