Did You Hear the One About… {National Joke Day, Aug. 16}

Let’s face it. The last 18 or so months have sucked. We’ve been stuck inside. We have been relegated to ordering food curbside, wine delivery (most necessary), and avoiding in-person contact with our family and friends. I know, at least in my life, I have been through some major valleys and struggles during this time. I can only imagine that’s the same for many others, too.

So, what’s that cheesy line? Turn that frown upside down? It takes more muscles to frown than smile. Let’s lighten the mood and tell some jokes!

joke

I’m a sucker for puns and dad jokes. My kids are well aware of my proclivity to be on the ready with a silly (in my humble opinion) play on words or extremely corny joke. BUT, I still can manage to get a smile out of them… even if it’s accompanied by a set (or two) of rolling eyes!

But laughter really is healthy! Laughter can prevent heart disease and relax your muscles. When you hear a good joke, it activates neurons in the brain called the reward pathway. It is triggered by humor and causes euphoria, which reduces stress. Laughter can also have both physical and mental benefits. Some of these include lowered stress levels, less anxiety and an improved mood.

Jokes Can Relax You

Laughter’s the best stress reliever around. If you’re one of those serious types, then this day’s not for you.

Laughs Can Lift Your Mood

A great joke at the right time can work wonders. Jokes bring happiness to those in need by temporarily distracting them from their worries.

Jokes Can Make You the Life of the Party

Everyone loves the guy or gal who can lighten the mood during serious times. It’s a great way to make new friends – assuming your jokes go over well.

If you need ideas for jokes, browse this list of 100 funny jokes. Find one you can use with friends or family and see if you can get a laugh.

What is one of your tried and true jokes? I’d love to hear them so I can add more to my arsenal and keep my kids on their toes!

I am originally from New Hampshire and moved to the Cincinnati area in 2003. I am a single mom to 2 amazing boys, Eli and Ethan. We are avid Reds fans and you will likely find us at the ballpark quite a bit during baseball season. I have a degree in healthcare management and work full-time in Cincinnati. I have shared parenting of my boys, so when we are together, I try to make sure we make the most of our time! Whether it’s seeing Madcap Puppets, exploring the numerous local parks, enjoying the Cincinnati Pops, or cheering on our Cincinnati Redlegs, I strive to expose my boys to as many aspects of culture that I can! I enjoy music (I’ve played piano for 30 years) as well as being crafty (as time allows!), making crazy cool cakes, and relaxing with my boys, our dog Frankie and cats Lyra & Luna (we have quite the animal kingdom in our house)! I’m really excited about sharing a piece of my world with you and this oftentimes humorous and wild adventure I call my life as a mom!
