Planet Dance Cincinnati {Not Your Corner Studio}

We are so thankful to our friends at Planet Dance Cincinnati for sponsoring this post! They certainly are not your typical corner dance studio, and CMC highly recommends their programs for kids (and grown ups!) of all ages.

They’re not your corner dance studio. No dance moms. No toddlers and tiaras. No sparkle motion. You get the idea. Planet Dance Cincinnati has been around for 15 years and is located in the ‘Arts’ District along Gilbert Avenue in Walnut Hills near Downtown. Whatever your child’s dance interests, Planet Dance has a class for that. PD has three main components: Kids Club (the newest!), Pre-Professional, and Adult Classes.

Get just a single class, a class card, or a Monthly Unlimited card, which is good for any class on their schedule. Even better, you don’t have to schedule ahead of time – drop in on any class, any time! Plus, there’s NO long-term commitment! Tell them the Cincinnati Mom Collective sent you their way, and get your first drop-in class for FREE!

What truly sets Planet Dance apart from your typical corner dance studio is their incredibly talented and world-renowned staff with a focus on education. Their extraordinary Resident and Guest Faculty consists of those such as Andy Blankenbuehler, Tony Award winning choreographer of Hamilton, Beyonce’s Original “Single Ladies”, Ebony Williams, and Emmy Award winning choreographer, Travis Wall, from So You Think You Can Dance and Shaping Sound.

Planet Dance is also our title sponsor for the 2020-2021 Kids Activities Guide!

The newest program, Planet Dance Kids Club, is a 15-week course for either Fall or Spring with January and June shows at the Aronoff Center for the Arts – and costume is included! This is a more cost-effective way for your young dancer who wants to hone their skills by committing to a whole semester. Kids Club is recommended for children 7-12, but those as young as 3 can join. Registration for Fall 2020 is open now through August 31st, so email [email protected] to enroll today!

Their theme for this program is Move. Grow. Learn. These are closed classes and not open to drop-ins, so the same group of kids are moving, growing, and learning together over the full 15 weeks. Classes are on Saturdays starting in September, and your young dancer will learn ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap during the semester! The weeks culminate in a performance that will boost their confidence and allow their personalities to shine. They learn their dances, get a costume, and get to perform on stage at Cincinnati’s finest performance center! It is sure to be an experience your child will never forget.

Saturday Kids Club class schedule is as follows:

  • 12-12:45pm – Intro to Ballet/Tap
  • 1-2pm – Ballet 1
  • 1:30-2:30pm – Ballet 2
  • 2:15-3:15pm – Tap 1
  • 2:45-3:45pm – Jazz 1/2
  • 3:15-4:15pm – Hip Hop 2

The cost for a semester of Kids Club is $270 (plus a $25 registration fee if you’re new). Save yourself some time at the studio and register online ahead of time!

planet dance pre-pro

Besides Kids Club and general classes for every genre, students looking to pursue a career in dancing can join the Pre-Professional/Apprenticeship program. This one is recommended for youth and young adults between the ages of 12-19 that have at least 3 years of prior dance experience and are interested in pursuing dance as a career.

Let your intermediate or advanced dancer become more confident with this program! The Pre-Pro and Apprenticeship are incomparable in the industry. Your pre-teen/teen can take classes in ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, tap, acro, dance anatomy, professional portfolio development, and more. You can let them dive into 7+ classes per week that develop their technique, artistry, ideas, and confidence. Courtney Snow
I was born in New York and lived in several states before settling down in my favorite city of all time - Cincinnati! I have an interracial family that consists of my amazing and talented husband (Derek) and our beautiful, silly daughter (Adilyn {2009}). I work full-time in Human Resources in addition to owning the Cincinnati, Dayton, & Louisville Mom Collectives, write and illustrate children's books (search "Courtney Jayne Snow" on Amazon), love to volunteer, and am a registered and certified nutritional consultant (RNC/CNC). I still do my best to be the best mom and wife I can be! I love art museums, the theatre, the zoo, reading, and Cincinnati parks. I'm a foodie and always love trying new places to eat. I hope other moms find either enlightenment or humor from my posts!
