Valentine’s Day Ideas for the Family

0

I think many would agree that Valentine’s Day is one of the most commercial days of the year, but nonetheless, I’m kind of a sucker for it. I’m not a huge celebrant but I don’t mind some good chocolate and wine or maybe a fancy dinner out.

Valentine’s Day was always a fun day as a kid when I was growing up.

Valentine's Day

Our school threw a Valentine’s Day party that included crafts, candy, exchanging cards and an absurd bake sale. I would often ride my school bus home with a giant, ridiculous sheet cake on my lap. It was wonderful.

All of that being said, Valentine’s Day is also great because it really doesn’t require a ton of pressure. I mean, the stars would have to align for babysitting and a good restaurant reservation to shake out perfectly. So, here are a few ideas to celebrate this cheesy, silly, and sweet holiday:

Homemade Valentine’s Cards

This one is easy and pop-up cards are perfect for the occasion. I went through an intense pop-up card phase as a kid, and it’s super easy. With two sheets of paper, a pair of scissors, glue and crayons, you can make something special and get your kids in on it, too.

Heart-Shaped Pizza

This one is a classic, but don’t let it overwhelm you. Sure, you can make a pretty simple homemade crust but you can also buy one. Cut it into the shape of a heart and top it as you want. Make a dessert pizza with some cinnamon and apples.

Watch a Rom-Com With Your Significant Other

Or yourself or your gal pals. Really, here is your time to watch some cheesy smut. We all know we love it.

Deliver Valentines

All of those cards you made? Drop some off to your neighbors or drop them off at a local nursing home.

Make Pink Pancakes

You can Google search this recipe but these hearty, nutritious pancakes are a hit at my house and I attribute that mostly to the fact that they are pink. They are very tasty though!

Valentine’s Day Countdown

This one takes a little bit of foresight and prep, but creating a countdown chain to Valentine’s Day that includes small acts of kindness like calling a grandparent to say “I love you” or giving a sibling a compliment could make for some positive and pleasant moments.

Have a Valentine’s Dance Party

Create or borrow a love song playlist and dance away with your people. Include some red punch and maybe some refreshments like strawberries and chocolate.

These ideas are as fluid as they come and can be edited or deleted as needed. What are your favorite Valentine’s Day traditions or memories?
