We are SO ready for fall in my house! My personal favorite day of every year is the first day that it is cold enough to wear a sweatshirt. As I look forward to this day, I have put together a list of 10 must-do fall activities to do with your family.

1. Pumpkin picking
We are lucky enough to have several great pumpkin patches in the Cincinnati area!

2. Decorate pumpkins
You don’t have to celebrate Halloween to decorate pumpkins! You also don’t have to carve them. Pull out the paint, sequins, stickers, googly eyes, buttons, and whatever else you can think of and try something new this year!

3. Leaf art
Collect leaves to assemble on paper in a collage, or do one of my favorite childhood activities and do leaf rubbings of all shapes and sizes. You can also make leaf people by gluing leaves on paper, adding googly eyes, and drawing arms and legs (or using sticks!).

4. Nature scavenger hunt
Enjoy the changing season with a scavenger hunt.  Great ones can be found online! If your kids are old enough, encourage them to come up with their own list of things to find.

5. Drink apple cider (preferably warm!)
It’s not fall without apple cider! You can find fresh apple cider at many of the farms around town, but you can also find some at the grocery store. Pour it into a crock pot and add some cinnamon sticks for a warm, fall treat! If you don’t have time to wait for the crock pot, pop a mug into the microwave and sprinkle some cinnamon and nutmeg on top to make it feel a little fancier.

6. Enjoy a campfire
Bring along those marshmallows for an extra special treat!

7. Jump in a big pile of leaves
Who doesn’t love this? Don’t forget that grownups can enjoy big piles of leaves too!

8. Make pinecone bird feeders
Find pinecones and fill them with peanut butter and sunflower seeds or bird seed. Attach some yarn and hang them outside, and enjoy watching the birds! You could extend this into an art activity by having your little ones draw or paint the different kinds of birds they see.

9. Read your favorite fall-themed books
My son and I love going through our monstrous book collection and pulling out all of the fall-themed books when the weather starts to get cooler. It’s a great way to teach him about the changing seasons.

10. Fall picnic
I like having picnics in the fall even better than in the spring! The chill in the air and the fall colors are good for the soul.
