Family Favorite Christmas Book Round-Up

0

One of my kids’ favorite parts about getting out the Christmas decorations at our house is pulling out all of the Christmas books. It is like they are being reacquainted with long lost friends. They spend the next hour pouring over each book before placing it in our seasonal book basket next to the fireplace.

Each year I try to add a few new books to the collection. I’ll admit that some Christmas stories can get redundant, so it can be a challenge to find new books that are engaging and tell our favorite Christmas stories from a new perspective. Here are a few of our favorites, and I hope you can find a new book on this list to share with your family this holiday season.

All the Colors of Christmas by Matthew Paul Turner
This was one of our new picks for this year. We LOVE all of the books by this author and the fact that the illustrations are so beautiful and culturally diverse. Discover all the colors, sights, and sounds of Christmas in this lyrical story.

Construction Site on Christmas Night by Sherri Duskey Rinker and AG Ford
My son is obsessed with cars and construction vehicles so this is an obvious choice. Come along with the construction trucks as they build something special for Christmas Eve and get presents of their own in the process.

Maple and Willow’s Christmas Tree by Lori Nichols
These sisters are so excited for their first real Christmas tree until they discover one of them may be allergic. This is the story about how they find a way to still make this the best Christmas ever.

J is for Jesus: The Sweetest Story Ever Told by Crystal Bowman
A sweet tale that gives the symbolism of the popular Christmas treat, the candy cane!

Santa’s Sleigh is on its way to Cincinnati by Eric James
Follow Santa’s Christmas Eve adventure through our beloved city. The personalized illustrations and landmarks in the story make this a fun read.

The Littlest Elf by Brandi Dougherty
This story shows how the littlest elf at the North Pole discovers he is never too little to spread Christmas cheer.

The Pine Tree Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs
A touching story about a farmer and his family who grow Christmas trees and give a beautiful gift to one special family and show the true meaning of the Christmas season.

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas by Alice Schertle
I think the original Little Blue Truck book gets read in our house no less than 5 times a day so this Christmas version is a real hit. Our favorite truck delivering Christmas trees plus actual twinkling lights make this a real winner.

Who Is Coming To Our House? by Joseph Slate and Ashley Wolff
This is perfect for young readers. The Christmas story from the perspective of the animals in the barn making room for Jesus’ birth.

Santa’s Favorite Story: Santa Tells the Story of the First Christmas by Hisako Aoki
The intertwining of the meaning of Christmas and our favorite jolly old elf, as Santa tells all the forest animals about the very first Christmas.

The Snowmen Did It! written and illustrated by CMC Owner, Courtney Jayne Snow
What do you think snowmen do at night? Have snowball fights? Sneak into classrooms? Build forts? Find out in this snowman mystery! This wintery adventure will have you laughing the whole way through!

The Shattered Ornament written by Rev. Derek Terry and illustrated by CMC Owner, Courtney Jayne Snow
An inspiring story about finding beauty through brokenness.

I am a wife and mommy to two sweet girls ages 4 and 10 months. I work from home part-time as an art teacher for a local online school. As a Cincinnati native I love this city and am so thankful to be raising my family here. I love getting creative with my four year old and letting her run wild with paint and lots of other art supplies. I am passionate about encouraging creativity and art making at any age. When I am not crafting or having adventures with my little girls, I love organizing, decorating, shopping for a bargain, exploring new places for family fun around the city, cooking, and searching for local restaurants with great food. I also run an Etsy shop, be tees. by AJB (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AuroraJanesBoutique), with my sister selling screen printed baby and toddler apparel.
